Map of the Moment - Marketgarden

by Spash Damage

Description

I think most people can tell from the screenshot this is a good looking map, its set in a huge and varied town, lots of nice houses (although you cant go in many) big impressive bridge, . I think its the best custom mp map thats been made so far in terms of whats been acheived.

Having played it with 32 people online I can say its a lot of fun and the gameplay works well, I also saw a 64 player server which would probably be good given the size of the map, which also means if there isnt many people on server its rather hard to find people.

Its very varied for its size, overall the architecture is very good with an impressive bridge and well made terrain and not to mention some pretty housing. The lighting on the whole is ok, it could be better, its a shame all the shadows are pitch black.

On the downside I dont think they are going to release another version, which is a shame because of the no ambient setting. Theres also a few textures that have become overbright, especially the grass on the terrain. Its very open in parts too, but the biggest problem is probably the fps, its poor even on a fairly good machine with a Geforce 4 ti4200, maybe because too much is being drawn, I think the entire map just about as there doesnt seem to be any hint brushes, rspeeds do go to extremes and in places you can get 15fps on top end machines. It has in a sense been a massive achievement, but in another sense made incorrectly and not caulk hulled either by the looks of it, so dont expect to see another fps friendly version because it would mean remaking the whole map probably.
